I have never tried quinoa- never even heard of it before last year. I don't get out much, I guess. That is one thing that I have to try.
I can't eat tofu. I have tried, I really have.
I love spinach. I love raspberries, tomatoes, and broccoli. I don't like brown rice as much as white but I am trying.
I think when I go shopping and I get a load of fruit and vegetables, it seems to cost more. Boxed foods that are processed are always cheaper but most things in a box are not healthy- but the ease of them sometimes wins over.
I find meat expensive as well, with chicken being a little cheaper. Because of that, I do tend to eat less meat and when I do, it is usually chicken.
Since where I live has a limited growing season, we get a lot of fresh food imported- often from the U.S., Mexico or Central America. How fresh can they be by the time they get here? Anything imported costs more as well. During the summer the fresh vegetables, fruits and berries that are grown right near where I live, are abundant and much cheaper.
I guess that is the key-- to eat in season, cut back on the more expensive items, eat less meat. I should start looking at the weekly sales and plan my meals around them (I only do this occasionally!)
What are your favourite, cheaper, healthy foods??
